Hello everyone,
Glad to find this Site!
We are holding our Second annual "Flamingo Weekend @Wind Creek State Park" in Alexander City, Alabama on April 18-20.2008.
It's a chance for Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Str8 friends to get together in a NON gay camp ground atmosphere and enjoy each others company without all the nonsense that goes on at Gay camp grounds.
It also allow Gay parents to bring their kids along and let them know that their Moms and Dads aren't alone!
This is not a Sponsored event, there is no big show planned, or any type of schedule to follow, Just a weekend of camping with friends, families, and hopefully a few NEW faces that will become New friends. Just bring your Flamingo decorations and then get out and meet others who have their Flamingos out.
Last year we had Flamingos on 32 campsites all over the park. and had over 20 Saturday day passes given out. Not bad for our first year. So if you can join us. _________________ John,47

Flamingo Weekend 2008 was truly a GREAT one! We had 33 campers on 13 campsites,(not bad for a state park with over 600sites). And over 25 day visitors on Saturday. We were joined by 3 Straight families this year who camped all weekend with their gay family members. Isn't that what camping SHOULD be about?
While most of the campers were from the Montgomery/Alexander City, Alabama area, we had a camper join us from Birmingham, and visitors from Auburn, Montgomery, Goodwater, Tallassee, and even a man from Houston Texas!
The weather turned out great, although we went all week being told of severe storms for the weekend and I think that may have keep some of last years campers away. There was the most beautiful full moon over the the lake for us during the weekend and the midnight pontoon boat rides were a very nice way to end each evening.
The Saturday potluck dinner ,as always turned out to be way too much food and our fridge was filled with leftovers. My two slabs of ribs that smoked for 5 hours just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. With the fresh potato salad baked beans hot dogs burgers home made cole slaw, it was a feast!
What makes our little weekend so great is that we get to meet new people and that's why we put it on every year. this year Ted and I met 9 new people and 6 of them live in our own town!
I hope more people can make plans to join us the 3rd weekend of April 2009 for the 3rd annual Flamingo weekend at Wind Creek. _________________ John,47
